On Saturday, April 26, 2014, I had the wonderful opportunity to attend a workshop for Malaysian English teachers. The workshop was held at the Pekan PPD office. The speakers were PN Anita Zuraini BT Abdul Rashid and PN Azlina BT Khamis. Malaysian teachers of English from around the Pekan district attended. There were approximately 50 teachers in attendance. My objective in attending was to observe and understand what Malaysian teachers are expected to teach in their classes regarding the UPSR as well as understand their approach to teaching English as a whole.
The experience was certainly helpful in providing me with additional information on how as a mentor I can best support the teachers in the schools. I especially noted that teaching grammar is difficult for many teachers, especially regarding the UPSR grade 6 assessment. I have provided photos and a short video of that event.
I also managed to meet several teachers from Chini and other clusters who are or were involved in the TELL program over the years. It was an excellent moment to network.
